Spookiness Scale

For some, cemeteries evoke feelings of fear and dread. For others, they are beautiful spaces filled with memories and reflection. For us, they are places with countless stories waiting to be told. This October, we are proud to partner with Beechwood Cemetery National Historic Site for a one-of-a-kind evening filled with storytelling and chills. We will share the darker history of the cemetery’s early days and the ghost stories connected to some who rest there – including strange reports from staff that continue to this day. The experience will be mostly outdoors as we walk amongst the crypts, headstones and other markers. Our final stop of the evening will give us the rare opportunity to venture inside the Mausoleum after sunset for one last spine-tingling tale.  We recommend all guests bring a flashlight for fun & safety. Masks are required to enter the Mausoleum.

To help celebrate the launch of the new tour, on October 1st we are partnering with Pop-Up Cinema to present Frankenstein in Beechwood Cemetery at 7:30pm. Take the tour before the movie at 6:15pm, or afterwards at 9:15pm. Space is limited.

A Safe & Spooky Experience for All...

Yes. This tour is fully accessible.

Yes – except for the Mausoleum. We’d just ask that you keep your dog on a leash throughout and be mindful of other guests. Our dog-friendly tours in Ottawa are: The Original Haunted Walk of Ottawa and Ghosts of the Mackenzie King Estate.

More Spooky Fun!

The outdoor tour that started it all! We share some of our most chilling ghost stories from the area and lead you by lantern light to some of the spookiest haunted spots, including the Bytown Museum, the Fairmont Château Laurier, and Ottawa’s haunted high school. You’ll never look at the city and these buildings the same again! A tried and true favourite for all ages. Cette visite est également disponible en français.

Explore Ottawa’s famous haunted jail and real-life murder mystery! Tour the cellblocks where inmates of all kinds were once imprisoned. Retrace the final footsteps of the condemned as you walk from Death Row to the last working gallows in Canada. In 1869, was an innocent man executed for the murder of Thomas D’Arcy McGee, a popular Canadian politician? Does he still haunt the hallways of the jail to this day? Join us and find out for yourself. Not recommended for children under 10. Cette visite est également disponible en français.

The City of Ottawa requires that masks be worn to enter the historic jail. Part of the building is in use as an overflow distancing shelter for those experiencing homelessness. The areas we visit are reserved exclusively for tour use.
