What makes the Historic SDG Jail a great place to investigate?
- The jail was the site of many deaths, whether it be by hanging, illness, suicide, or sometimes even violence. This included prisoners, a jail warden/governor and even a judge.
- It is believed that numerous unclaimed bodies are still buried under exercise yard today.
- In addition to children seeing the "Lady in Black", there have been reports of many different kinds of hauntings throughout the property. Unsettling "shadow people" have surprised guests and staff alike as they scuttle in the darkness. It is suspected that the ghost of a young boy is still playing games in the courtroom and around the jail. Not to mention the slamming cell doors and phantom touches that many have unexpectedly experienced in the building.
- EVPs recorded at the jail feature some of the most vulgar and profane language we have ever heard at a historic haunted site. In fact, many of them are so rough, they cannot be easily shared with the public. Does this anomaly reflect the harsh nature of jail life, or the very troubled nature of some who did time there?
- With a max of 8 investigators per departure time, it will be the ultimate small group experience with lots of thrills and chills.

Who are Phantoms of Yore?
Phantoms of Yore are the Haunted Walk’s official paranormal investigations partners. POY was founded in March 2018 by Elliot Luijkenaar (left) and Eric Oickle (right). The pair wanted to assist in the preservation of unique historical sites by facilitating public Paranormal Investigations. Over the past three years they have hosted dozens of popular events and have helped raise thousands of dollars for restorative work, renovations and other funding needs. Some of the sites include: L’Original Jail, Murney Tower, Ninette Sanatorium, Cornwall Jail, Mill of Kintail and the HI Ottawa Jail Hostel.
What happens at public investigations?
Simply put, these events allows guests to be paranormal investigators for the evening. These suspenseful, entertaining and informative experiences share the history, folklore, paranormal accounts about the site, and the theories and hypothesis behind paranormal investigations. Investigators film their own experiences and the footage is uploaded so it can be reviewed for possible paranormal captures. Live feeds are also included in most events, allowing for patrons to have instant access to the footage. Many paranormal enthusiasts and experienced investigators watch the live feed to help detect anomalies.
